For the period listed above, WCCC(AM) and WCCC-FM, part of a single employment unit (“Unit”), hired full-time employees to fill the following positions:

Recruitment Sources

For the receptionist position, advertisements were placed in the Hartford Courant, La Voz and on the Connecticut Broadcasters Association website.  For the Sales position, an ad was placed in the Hartford Courant and on the Connecticut Broadcasters Association website.  In addition, letters announcing the openings were sent to over 25 local organizations.  Information regarding all of these recruitment sources, and the number of interviewees they referred, is provided in Exhibit A. 

The Unit continued to solicit organizations to join our list of organizations that would receive job postings.  This was accomplished through on-air announcements.  The Unit also responded to a number of requests via e-mail.

Recruitment Initiatives

In order to further broaden our outreach efforts to reach segments of the labor force who may be inadvertently omitted from our vacancy-specific recruitment, the Unit created, maintained or participated in the following programs.

Internship Program – The Unit has an internship programs that covers all four departments – Engineering, Programming, General Office and Sales.  For the period of 12/1/2007-11/30/20078, the Unit hired 6 interns and employed 10 programming/office staff/sales interns.  We had no engineering interns.  We continually prospected for new interns by soliciting more than ten colleges and trade schools throughout Connecticut.

Mentoring Program – Three junior members of the Unit sales staff participated in our mentoring program during the reporting period.  Mark Savage, Bill Grimmeisen and Aileen Charland were mentored by Gordon Weingarth.    The purpose of the program is to prepare the junior members for senior sales and management positions. 

Scholarship Programs – The Unit participated in two scholarship programs during the period.  All were supported with on-air announcements.  A general scholarship was given away in conjunction with the Connecticut Broadcasters Association and the Unit gave away a scholarship to the Connecticut School of Broadcasting.

Job Fairs –   The Unit attended a broadcasting Career Fair put on by the Connecticut Broadcasters Association on 5/12/2008.  We also participated in 3 Job Shadow days – 4/30/2008 (Kevin Siegel), 6/2/2008 (Kelsey Labrow) and 11/7/2008 (Elise Theroux).  In each instance the students spent the day at the stations learning about broadcasting.

Seminars – Business Manager Kathy Roche attended an EEO Seminar sponsored by the Connecticut Broadcasters Association on October 14, 2008.

Other Activities – The Unit provided scholarship money to the WTIC-TV Student News Program, an initiative designed to expose middle school and high school students to all aspects of television news.
